“Mi Madre” is a Spanish word that means “my mother”. The definition of a mother is a woman in relation to her child and a woman who gives birth to a child. A mother also means a woman whom have been taking care of us, since we were a child. You can also call someone your mother if she brings you up as if she was this woman. This precious woman is your ‘Mother’.
One of the most meaningful roles that a mother plays is the role of nurturer. This word is sometimes taken synonymously with the word “mother”. When a mother nurtures her children well, love and goodness are awakened in the children’s hearts. Because of our mothers’ love, we learn to love, as well and we feel God’s love more profoundly. This artwork is meant for my late mother who named Hajah Aini binti Dato’ Haji Osman. She is one of the person that really knows me well and can tolerate with me no matter how complicated I can be. She would always try her best to fulfil my “wants” and “needs” to bring me up since I was born. It’s such a big sacrifice for a person who named as a mother to take care of her child because it is way more difficult than what you can ever think of. She was struggling in the battle of cancer for three years and a half, which was from 2012 to 2014. I was amazed with her because she still managed to play the role not only as a wife but also as a mother of a child even though she was suffering with the pain that she had to carry. I thank God because she managed to fulfil the fifth pillar of Islam, which is (Hajj) as a Muslim in 2013.
This series of work is to show that even though it has been 3 years and a half she left us, I still can feel her presence and I can still feel like she’s around. If I could turn back the time, I would go back to the time when I was with her.
